What does the term "Graphic Designer" Stand for
Presently...?
Recently....well more like the past couple of months,
it seems that the title of graphic designer has
evolved. I know the job market is constantly changing
and skills need to be updated and so on and so forth.
But, unless you were a double major in college or
self taught professional, I certainly do not get the
idea of graphic designers being more than graphic
designer.
What I mean is most job ads these days require (not a plus anymore) web programming/development skills and a plethora of other add-ons.
I am not saying it is a bad idea to know how to program for the web, but isn't that a totally different job description. I know there are doctors who do family practice and then there are specialists (e.g brain surgeon, or a Gynecologist) . There are also civil engineers, mechanical engineers; or real estate lawyers, criminal lawyers, medical malpractice lawyers.
I could go on.... but my point being there are job descriptions for graphic designers with 3-D modeling expertise, web programming and web application development using flash.
I don't see job descriptions for divorce lawyers with real estate experience, or for a civil/mechanical engineer.
Any rate, I could be misunderstanding the different occupational needs, but I still think a graphic designer should be just a graphic designer; not an animator, web programmer, 3d artist or whatever else is added to the job description.
Thanks for reading.
